About us

Bookcraft was established in 1992 by a group of experienced freelance publishing professionals, at a time when outsourcing project management was a relatively new phenomenon. The aim was then as it is now to provide a comprehensive range of services to the publishing industry.

We like to think we can do anything. This is because our network of freelancers and organisations covers the whole spectrum of publishing services. Our business is to pull together the most efficient, talented and professional individuals and organisations and create the perfect team to work on your project.

Our full-time team includes project managers, designers, typesetters and technical experts. Over the years we have gathered around us a very talented pool of freelancers, experts in their fields, and can call on the services of experienced illustrators, indexers, copy-editors, layout specialists, graphic artists, image processors, project managers and writers. With our links to Indian typesetters, we are able to provide typesetting at extremely competitive rates, as well as access to cost-effective figure processing, XML preparation and ePub conversion.

Bookcraft has carried out projects for many of the UK's major publishers – Taylor & Francis, Blackwell, Heinemann, Pearson, Ashgate and HarperCollins – and for many other organisations, such as IUCN, Edexcel and English Heritage. Individual clients are important too, who come to us with books they wish to publish for themselves – be they short-run volumes of poetry, company annual reports, family memoirs or studies in local history.

Bookcraft's own publishing projects include Memories of Times Past and Real Reads. These projects show that we can originate highly creative materials, involving the commissioning of writers and artists, sourcing of images and the creation of distinctive series design. Both of these series have been sold across the world, and demonstrate Bookcraft's knowledge and experience not only of book production but also of marketing and distribution.
